其實事情的發生，大半在午夜；但是「深層意義」，和In the morning大有關係。
下班後，歷經了工作上的「三溫暖」，直覺想要跟朋友聊聊。最後是找到老單，約在海源。
我刻意避開政治話題，聊到了孩子的教育。這一代的父母，應該很少不重視教育的；只是我覺得著眼點對不對的問題。「努力」不代表是好的；但這是許多人的迷思。很多人都會強調自己有多努力，多用心；不管是在工作，或是教育下一代。
我跟老單打個比方：「好比釘釘子，」你很用力、很努力、很用心地釘，但是鐵鎚都敲在釘子邊的牆上；那麼，你的努力，沒有用的。你告訴我，你有多認真，敲到手流血；都是枉然。
所以啦，做父母的，不是強調自己多用心教導孩子，而是要捫心自問，「做對了沒？」。其實每回跟朋友在一起，我都習慣聊這些；喝酒不一定言不及義。
老單說，他回憶不起，他爸帶他去過什麼地方。這使我想起，蔣勳說的：美，是一種記憶。不管酸甜苦辣，沒有這個部分，絕對沒有美。如果父子之間，缺乏共同的記憶，那我想，父子的感情，是出於道德倫理的「不得不然」。了解這一點，我跟老單說，「要做對的事」。
當我們聊的很進入狀況時，隔壁桌的兩名老外（覺得有點面熟），比我們還high。他們好像聊到老歌，然後開始唱起來。可惜的是，嘰哩咕嚕的，唱的歌我們都沒聽過。
直到他們唱出一個我熟悉的旋律「The eyes of the tiger」，我才覺得有共鳴。他們一直在互相「挖掘」，挖掘彼此記憶的深層。這一點，喝酒後好像中外亦然。
我跟老單說，別笑人家，我們還不是一樣。每次酒過三巡，就要互考金庸、打賭棒球。說著說著，他又來了。當場考我：「降龍十八掌中，有哪幾掌是不帶龍字的」。我答：「震驚百里」、「利涉大川」、「牴羊觸藩」。光這三掌，豈是等閑？不由得他不服。
這時老外越來越high；服務生說，他們常來，今天最high。看他們每想到一首冷僻歌曲，卻又有人唱的出來時，那種興奮、同理心、惺惺相惜，真是感染我們。唱到「Ebony and Ivory」，他們高興的擊掌，殊不知那是我年輕的記憶，我當場跟他們唱了起來。也可見，他們比我年輕。
上廁所時，碰到了老外；我對他們說：「You're happy，aren't you？ 」，「You're like a jukebox all night…」，他們也不以為忤，還連聲稱是，對我大談80年代音樂。我說尤其那首「The eyes of the tiger」我最有共鳴，結果他們在廁所裡又唱起來，旁若無人。
熟悉的場景，我和老單又聊到欲罷不能，聊到天荒地老，聊到人家收椅拖地。更想不到的是，店長跟我們說：「我們結帳是到×點，但是你們可以坐到天亮」。
可是真的不行了，明天又不是假日。和老單告別後，我騎著腳踏車往回家的路上，不知不覺，嘴裡哼起了「In the morning」。
